  • While Slack is primarily a team communication tool, Asana is a project management software. These tools can’t really substitute each other without integrations with third-party apps. Although, Slack has a means for coordinating your teamwork, while Asana provides some ways for communication.
  • Third-party and Slack-built apps. From your desktop, visit Slack’s App Directory. Select Manage in the top right. Click the Installed apps tab at the top of the screen. Find and select the app you want to remove. From the app page, click the Configurations tab. Third-party apps:. Scroll down to Remove App and select Remove App.
  • Slack has revolutionized the way teams work. When Asana was released, Slack certainly didn’t feel that their position in the online communication market was threatened. However, as we will see, they sandbox is in fact getting larger.
  • Compared to most other project management systems, Asana takes the cake in terms of the number of integrations it offers. In fact, Asana offers over 100 integrations, running the gamut from Dropbox to Slack to GitHub to Mailchimp. Asana also integrates with Zapier in addition to offering its own API. My name is Michael, and I’m a Product Marketer focused on Asana’s Workflows and Platform features. I’m very excited to share that Rules in Asana can now connect to other apps. This new feature will help you automatically take actions in those tools without having to leave Asana, making sure that key pieces of information move with your work when they cross multiple tools.

In our first batch of App Rules, you’ll find actions that connect Asana to Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Jira. Here are some examples of what you could do with App Rules:

  • When a task is marked complete, send a message to a Slack channel.

  • When to use: Automatically notify the #translation channel when a video production task has been completed

  • When a task is moved to a specific section, create a new Jira issue and link it to the Asana task.

  • Use case example: Automatically create a Jira ticket when a task is moved from “Triage” to “Assigned”

This launch marks the beginning of many more integrations to come. We hope you are excited as we are and encourage you to explore the different combinations you can create with Rules and App Rules.
